Without oxidization colors are reds and oranges. When oxidized color will be a dark (almost black) olive green. I feel that my best results come with as little oxidization as possible. This glaze requires the highest temperature of any of the glazes I use. If using this glaze, be prepared for your most striking pieces or your ugliest. Very careful control of temperature rise and peak are necessary to avoid a finish covered with blisters because the glaze will boil at temperatures only just above the maturing point. If you take too long to get the piece from the kiln to the reduction container the color will be a dark olive drab. This glaze is mixed by volume. Use whatever size will give the volume you need (such as a tbsp. or half cup measure). |
